Everett C. Jones Sr. Takes Leadership Role at Love in Action
Former executive director of Northlands Rescue Mission, Everett C. Jones Sr., has been appointed as the new executive director of Love in Action, a faith-based nonprofit located in Grand Forks. This announcement comes approximately six weeks after Jones’ termination from the Northlands Rescue Mission, which he claims was a retaliatory action following a disagreement with a board member.
Community members and leaders from various nonprofit organizations expressed their surprise and concern regarding Jones’ dismissal. Among them was Doris Lebby, co-founder and board president of Love in Action, who issued a press release on November 14, 2023. In her statement, she expressed enthusiasm for Jones’ new role, stating, “I’m looking forward to the next level that God is taking Love in Action with Everett’s leadership.”
Jones expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead Love in Action and emphasized his commitment to the Greater Grand Forks community. To support the organization during his transition, he has decided to forgo his salary, directing resources toward stabilizing and strengthening the nonprofit. “Love in Action is sustained solely through the kindness and generosity of donors — we receive no government funding or grants at this time,” Jones noted. “I want to honor that sacrifice with my own.”
Jones’ Vision for Love in Action
In his new position, Jones aims to build upon the foundational values established by Love in Action’s founders, including Lebby and Janet Nelson. He recognizes the importance of the organization’s mission, which focuses on serving individuals who are underserved and disconnected from resources and spiritual communities. Love in Action has evolved into a community hub, uniting churches, organizations, and volunteers in shared service.
The nonprofit has developed programs such as the Money in Your Hands Project and open mic nights, which foster healing, creativity, and authentic community expression. Under Jones’ leadership, Love in Action is expected to enhance its outreach and create spaces for healing, worship, and connection. “We are committed to being a place where faith is lived, love is shown, and hope is restored,” he stated.
Kristen Wilde, board vice president, remarked on what she views as divine timing in Jones’ appointment. She explained that sometimes a closing door is merely a precursor to new opportunities. “Everett shares our same heartbeat for serving this incredible community that we are honored to serve,” Wilde said.
A Bright Future Ahead
In her statement, Nelson expressed her excitement about welcoming Jones to Love in Action. She highlighted his passion and commitment to the organization’s mission, stating that they are “stepping boldly into a new season of growth, compassion, and impact.”
Jones is eager to contribute to the nonprofit’s efforts and is committed to serving the community with dignity and compassion. His appointment marks a new chapter for Love in Action, as they continue to expand their outreach and strengthen their programs. As the organization moves forward, the leadership hopes to inspire and support all individuals who seek assistance through their doors.
