AI-Generated Video Misleads on Uttar Pradesh Healthcare Crisis
A video falsely attributed to India’s healthcare struggles in Uttar Pradesh has circulated widely online, drawing criticism of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The clip, showing a patient falling from a moving ambulance, has been confirmed as AI-generated by its creator, despite the serious implications it suggests about the state of public healthcare.
The incident depicted in the video has not been corroborated by any official reports. In fact, no documented case of a patient falling from an ambulance has emerged in December 2025. The clip gained traction on social media, with posts questioning the effectiveness of the BJP government in addressing healthcare needs. One post, shared on December 10, 2025, includes a caption in Hindi that criticizes the government’s performance, stating, “See how active the BJP government is in addressing the needs of patients.”
Despite the rampant issues within Uttar Pradesh’s healthcare system, including corruption and inadequate facilities, the authenticity of this specific video has been debunked. Local news sources have highlighted ongoing challenges such as overcrowded hospitals and insufficient staff, yet the viral video misrepresents reality.
Critics like Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the opposition Samajwadi Party and former chief minister, have vocally condemned the BJP’s handling of healthcare. He accuses the party of “destroying” the healthcare system through neglect and mismanagement. In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP have announced plans to revamp healthcare in Uttar Pradesh, focusing on improving disease control, maternal health, and medical education.
As the misleading video spread across platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, comments from users reflected a growing disillusionment with the state’s healthcare system. One user lamented, “In Uttar Pradesh, only God can save the patient,” while another criticized the government’s failure to value citizens’ lives.
An investigation into the video’s origins revealed it was created by Hemsagar Bhattarai, a Nepali labourer residing in Doha. Bhattarai admitted to using AI tools, specifically ChatGPT and Sora AI, to generate engaging content for his social media accounts. His intention was to boost engagement, not to depict a real event. “This was the first time I used AI to create a video, and it went viral,” Bhattarai stated.
A detailed analysis of the video shows numerous inconsistencies typical of AI-generated content. For instance, the patient’s oxygen mask is not connected properly, and visual anomalies suggest manipulation. A reverse image search traced the video to a post on a Facebook page unrelated to healthcare issues, indicating its original context was misrepresented.
To further validate these findings, AFP conducted tests using Hive Moderation’s AI video detector, which indicated a 95 percent likelihood that the content was artificially created. This incident highlights the growing concern over misinformation linked to critical issues such as healthcare, particularly in regions facing ongoing challenges.
As digital platforms continue to play a significant role in shaping public perception, the need for media literacy and critical evaluation of information becomes increasingly essential. Misleading content like this video can exacerbate existing frustrations within the public healthcare system and distract from the real issues at hand.
