Whoopi Goldberg Calls Trump’s Veteran Bonuses a “Bribe”
UPDATE: Whoopi Goldberg has raised eyebrows by asserting that President Donald Trump’s newly announced bonuses for veterans may be a calculated bribe to ensure military loyalty. During an intense discussion on The View on Thursday, Goldberg expressed skepticism about Trump’s intentions regarding the financial aid for service members.
In a statement made on Wednesday night, Trump announced that nearly 1.5 million military personnel will receive a special Christmas bonus, termed a “warrior dividend.” This one-time cash payment of $1,776 aims to honor the nation’s founding, echoing the year 1776. “The checks are already on the way,” Trump declared, attributing the funds to tariffs and the recently passed Republican spending and tax bill. “Nobody deserves it more than our military. Congratulations to everybody,” he added.
Goldberg’s comments came in the wake of Trump’s announcement, suggesting that the president’s strategy is to bribe soldiers into supporting his administration’s controversial orders. She stated, “What he’s doing is thinking, ‘If I make sure the soldiers have what they need, they’ll back me and what I want, see?’”
The conversation took a turn when fellow panelist and former Trump aide Alyssa Farah Griffin defended the initiative, crediting Trump for prioritizing military needs. “I want to see them get it first,” Goldberg countered, emphasizing that while troops do need support, all Americans are currently facing financial struggles. “Just a handout isn’t the answer. Smart policies are,” Griffin replied, highlighting the broader economic context.
The debate escalated when Fox News host Martha MacCallum asked Marine Dakota Meyer to weigh in on Goldberg’s remarks. Meyer dismissed her concerns, asserting, “The great thing is that my daughters and this next generation will grow up and not even know who Whoopi Goldberg is.”
As this story develops, the implications of Trump’s bonus announcement are stirring conversations among veterans and the public alike. The White House has yet to respond to inquiries about Goldberg’s comments.
