Urgent: Morning Call Launches 26th Be an Angel Campaign Now
UPDATE: The Morning Call has just launched its 26th annual Be an Angel campaign to meet the urgent needs of the community amid escalating economic pressures. As many families in the Lehigh Valley struggle to secure basic necessities, this campaign offers a vital lifeline for those in distress.
The holiday season is often a time for gratitude, but this year, rising costs are leaving many feeling overwhelmed. With inflation impacting everything from food to shelter, local nonprofits are facing unprecedented challenges. Amarelis Rodriguez from the Lehigh Conference of Churches emphasized, “So many families and individuals are feeling the impact of rising costs and limited resources. Donations give us the opportunity to meet people where they are, offering hope, help, and a reminder that they’re not alone.”
As we kick off this year’s campaign, individuals and businesses are encouraged to contribute to a diverse array of needs identified by local nonprofits. The Be an Angel wish list, available at mcall.com/beanangel, highlights specific items required to support struggling families and individuals, including:
– **Northern Lehigh Food Pantry**: Needs laundry detergent, paper towels, and monetary donations.
– **Parkland C.A.R.E.S Food Bank**: Accepts gift cards for food and toiletry items.
– **Helping Hands Ministry**: Seeks a pallet jack and a commercial food vacuum sealer.
The campaign has historically been a beacon of hope, raising nearly $6.2 million in donations over 25 years. Last year alone, generous contributors provided over $275,400 in tangible goods. These donations have directly impacted vulnerable populations, including the homeless and at-risk children throughout the region.
The urgency of this year’s campaign cannot be overstated. Local shelters and food banks are in dire need of support to continue their crucial services. For instance, New Bethany in Bethlehem is seeking winter camping supplies and warm gear for the homeless community. Meanwhile, Community Bikeworks is asking for bicycles to help at-risk youth learn valuable skills.
The community is invited to participate in this life-changing initiative. Donations can be made until January 1, 2026, allowing everyone the opportunity to contribute, regardless of their current financial situation. Even the smallest donation can make a significant difference.
“Your response always has been heartwarming,” noted campaign organizers, highlighting the impact of community support over the years.
As the campaign develops, it’s essential to remember that every contribution—whether financial, in-kind, or through volunteer work—counts. Local organizations are also calling for volunteers to help with various services, further emphasizing the need for community involvement.
This year’s Be an Angel campaign is not just about giving; it’s about uniting as a community to uplift those who are struggling. Join in and make a difference today—earn your angel wings and help transform lives in the Lehigh Valley.
