Trump Declares Venezuela Airspace ‘Completely Closed’ Amid Tensions
BREAKING: U.S. President Donald Trump has just announced that the airspace above and surrounding Venezuela is now officially closed. In a statement on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump warned, “To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY.”
This declaration comes amid escalating tensions between the United States and Venezuela, as U.S. military operations target vessels suspected of drug trafficking in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific. Flights to Venezuela are still visible on airline booking platforms, raising urgent questions about air travel safety in the region.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a warning for pilots to “exercise caution” near Venezuela’s airspace, citing a “worsening security situation and heightened military activity.” This advisory underscores the potential risks involved in air travel to and from Venezuela, which have intensified in recent weeks.
The U.S. Department of State previously issued a “Do Not Travel” warning for American citizens considering travel to Venezuela in May 2023. The advisory remains in effect, cautioning against the high risks of wrongful detention, torture, terrorism, kidnapping, arbitrary enforcement of local laws, crime, civil unrest, and a severely inadequate health infrastructure.
As the situation develops, travelers, airlines, and international observers are urged to stay updated on security conditions and potential changes in air travel advisories. The implications of Trump’s announcement are significant, as it highlights the deteriorating relationship between the U.S. and Venezuela amid ongoing military operations.
The urgency of this situation cannot be overstated. As tensions rise, both travelers and airlines must reassess their operations and safety protocols. What happens next will be crucial in shaping the future of air travel in and around Venezuela.
