Travelers Face Thanksgiving Rush as Airlines Prepare for Surge
UPDATE: As Thanksgiving approaches, travelers in Rochester, N.Y. are gearing up for a potentially hectic holiday season. Reports confirm that airports and train stations are preparing for a significant surge in passengers, raising concerns over travel ease in the coming weeks.
Airports across the region are reporting a return to normalcy, but the situation remains fluid. Traveler Dominique Brooks, arriving from Atlanta, Georgia, shared her smooth experience, stating, “Travel was definitely, you know, fairly easy.” She noted a mere 10-minute wait at TSA and a rapid baggage claim process of under two minutes.
However, the American Car Rental Association warns of potential challenges. Sharky Laguana, spokesperson for the association, emphasizes that while the car rental industry is prepared, air traffic staffing remains a concern. “We think that’s of great importance,” Laguana stated, highlighting that airlines are still not fully staffed.
Travelers should be aware: disruptions are still possible. Hiral Patel reported experiencing flight delays, with both of her flights affected by a two-hour hold-up. Yet, Marlene O’Brien noted improvements, stating, “I think hopefully in time for Thanksgiving, things will be improving.”
In addition to air travel, many are opting for rail. Amtrak confirms it is operating at full capacity and encourages passengers to book early due to heightened demand. Officials anticipate a strong turnout as more families choose trains over planes this season.
Gas prices are also favoring travelers, as AAA predicts a decline in fuel costs leading up to Thanksgiving. This trend is expected to ease the financial burden for those driving to their destinations.
As families prepare for gatherings, the emphasis on planning ahead is critical. Whether flying, driving, or taking the train, being proactive will ensure a smoother journey this holiday season.
Stay tuned for live updates as we approach the Thanksgiving weekend, where travel patterns will be closely monitored.
