Ted Cruz Urges Warning: Compares Tucker Carlson to Mamdani
URGENT UPDATE: Texas Senator Ted Cruz has ignited controversy by comparing former Fox News host Tucker Carlson to Zohran Mamdani, the democratic socialist New York Mayor-elect, during an appearance on the Straight Shooter with Stephen A. Smith podcast. This unexpected connection comes just as Mamdani is set to meet with President Donald Trump at the White House, raising eyebrows across the political spectrum.
During the episode aired late Thursday, Cruz expressed discomfort over Carlson’s recent interview with white supremacist and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes, which has stirred significant backlash within the right-wing community. Cruz asserted that antisemitism has “all but taken over” the Democratic Party and claimed that Carlson is “going down a very dark path,” likening him to Mamdani as an example of dangerous ideologies. “One of the things when you go down the road of antisemitism, it very quickly leads you to anti-capitalism and anti-Americanism,” Cruz remarked. “Mamdani is a good example of that, where he’s an Islamist, but he’s also a socialist,” he added, indicating that Carlson is on a similar trajectory.
The timing of Cruz’s comments is critical, coinciding with Mamdani’s upcoming discussions with Trump, marking a pivotal moment since his recent victory in the New York mayoral election. Cruz’s ongoing feud with Carlson has escalated following the latter’s controversial interview, further fracturing the GOP’s unity amidst the MAGA movement’s evolving landscape.
Cruz, a self-identified Christian Zionist, has been vocal against Carlson’s rhetoric, using this moment to position himself as a traditional, pro-interventionist Republican ahead of the 2028 elections. “My colleagues, almost to a person, think what is happening is horrible,” Cruz noted during a recent speech at the Federalist Society’s National Lawyers Convention, referring to the hesitance among GOP members to confront Carlson’s influence directly.
“Tucker’s going down that road too, in a way that I think is very dangerous,”
Cruz stated, amplifying his criticism of the influential media figure. He labeled Carlson’s rhetoric as “a poison that is profoundly dangerous” while attending the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual summit, where the fallout from the Fuentes interview dominated discussions.
As Cruz continues to publicly challenge Carlson, the implications of this feud are profound, affecting GOP dynamics and voter sentiment as the party heads toward future elections. Carlson remains defiant, dismissing critics and maintaining his stance, declaring they should “buzz off” amid the backlash.
This developing situation is critical for both politicians as they navigate the complexities of their respective positions within the party and the broader implications for American politics. Watch for updates as this story unfolds and the political ramifications become clearer.
