Richmond Police Identify Victim of Fatal Shooting as Josue Cornejo

URGENT UPDATE: Richmond authorities have identified the victim of a deadly shooting as 23-year-old Josue Cornejo. Cornejo was tragically shot on November 17, 2023, in the Iron Triangle area of Richmond. This marks one of four homicides investigated by local police this year.

According to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, police received an alert from a gunshot detection system around 5:55 a.m. in the 1400 block of Bissell Avenue, near Marina Way. Multiple witnesses also reported hearing gunfire, prompting a swift police response.

Upon arrival, officers found Cornejo suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have yet to reveal whether the shots were fired from a passing vehicle or if the shooting involved a confrontation on the street.
