Reds Claim World Series Champion Rortvedt Off Waivers NOW
BREAKING NEWS: The Cincinnati Reds have claimed catcher Ben Rortvedt off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers, just days after the team celebrated their World Series victory. This urgent move signifies the Reds’ commitment to bolstering their roster as the offseason begins.
Rortvedt, a left-handed batter, struggled this season, hitting just .152 with one home run and 10 RBI across 44 games with the Tampa Bay Rays and Dodgers. However, his reputation as a skilled pitch framer and game-caller remains strong, especially after stepping in for injured starter Will Smith during critical playoff moments.
The 28-year-old catcher joined the Dodgers at the July 31 trade deadline as part of a complex three-team deal. He made significant contributions during the National League Wild Card Series against the Reds and participated in two NL Division Series games against the Philadelphia Phillies.
In a related development, former All-Star pitcher Tony Gonsolin has rejected an outright assignment to the minors and opted for free agency after being designated for assignment by the Dodgers last week. The 31-year-old right-hander faced challenges this season, making only seven starts before undergoing elbow surgery that effectively ended his year. Gonsolin also missed all of 2024 while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
The Reds are making a decisive move to enhance their roster in light of Rortvedt’s experience and skills, which could play a crucial role in their upcoming season. As the offseason unfolds, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely for further developments from both the Reds and Dodgers.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as the MLB landscape shifts dramatically.
