BREAKING: Oscar Isaac has publicly criticized Disney, expressing hesitance to reprise his role as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars franchise. This revelation comes amid controversy following the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! by Disney-owned ABC due to inflammatory remarks made by Kimmel regarding the assassination of far-right activist Charlie Kirk.

In a newly published interview with GQ Magazine on September 25, 2023, Isaac stated, “Right now I’m not so open to working with Disney. But if they can kinda figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great.” His comments reflect a growing discontent with the studio’s handling of sensitive political issues.

The tension escalated after Kimmel’s controversial monologue on September 18, where he discussed Kirk’s fatal shooting, leading to a nationwide backlash and Kimmel’s five-day suspension. Upon his return, Kimmel expressed regret, stating, “It was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man. I don’t think there’s anything funny about it.”

Isaac, who starred in the blockbuster Star Wars trilogy from 2015 to 2019, indicated that he would reconsider working with Disney if they addressed these issues appropriately. He mentioned, “If that happens, then yeah, I’d be open to having a conversation about a galaxy far away. Or any number of other things.” This statement could significantly impact Disney’s future plans for the franchise.

The actor previously stirred controversy during a 2020 panel when he remarked he wouldn’t return to Star Wars unless he “needed another house,” describing the films as “not really what I set out to do” as an actor. Reflecting on that comment, he admitted to GQ, “That was a real likable quote. Jesus Christ,” acknowledging the insensitivity of his earlier remarks.

The Star Wars films featuring Isaac—The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker—collectively grossed over $4.4 billion at the global box office. Despite past comments, Isaac’s return could bring a significant draw to future projects.

Currently, Isaac stars in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, alongside notable actors including Jacob Elordi and Mia Goth, streaming on Netflix. Additionally, he is set to lead season two of Beef on the same platform.

This developing situation raises questions about the future of Star Wars and the repercussions of Disney’s corporate decisions. Fans are keenly watching how this drama unfolds, particularly with Isaac’s potential return to the franchise hanging in the balance.
