UPDATE: The Oregon Ducks made headlines last night with a record-breaking performance, attempting 40 three-pointers in their 83-69 victory over the South Dakota State Jackrabbits at Matthew Knight Arena. This marks the highest number of three-point attempts in program history, surpassing the previous record of 39 set during the 2017-18 season.

Oregon entered the game struggling with a dismal 20.5% shooting percentage from beyond the arc, ranked 351st nationally. However, they broke through, converting 15 of those attempts, showcasing a significant offensive turnaround. The Ducks’ shooting success was led by Jackson Shelstad, who scored 22 points and delivered 8 assists, alongside Takai Simpkins with 20 points.

Despite the win, Head Coach Dana Altman expressed concerns regarding the team’s physicality and shooting strategy. “That’s not us,” Altman stated, highlighting the need for better ball movement and less reliance on outside shots. The Ducks took a staggering 23 three-point shots in the first half but struggled to maintain their lead.

The game saw Oregon leading for the final 33 minutes, but they faced a late challenge from the Jackrabbits, who narrowed the gap to just 61-60 with 8:19 remaining. Oregon responded decisively with back-to-back threes from Shelstad, Kwame Evans Jr., and Simpkins, sealing the game with a 13-5 run.

With injuries affecting their lineup, Dez Lindsay stepped up, scoring 8 points in his first career start. Altman anticipates the return of injured player Devon Pryor for their next matchup against Oregon State on Monday night.

As the Ducks improve to 3-0 this season, the urgency to refine their offensive strategy becomes paramount. “When we went inside it worked out,” Shelstad said, emphasizing the need to attack the paint more aggressively. “We can’t have that going forward facing a lot tougher opponents,” he added, signaling the team’s focus on preparing for stronger competition ahead.

Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely as Oregon seeks to build on this record-setting night, navigating through the challenges of their upcoming schedule.
