One Lafayette Grants $29K to Local Nonprofits Amid Oversight Shift
BREAKING: The Community Foundation Boulder County has just awarded approximately $29,000 to 12 local nonprofits through the One Lafayette fund, marking a significant shift in grant administration from city oversight to community-led efforts. This urgent funding is aimed at organizations providing critical services like food assistance, youth support, and safety-net programs in Lafayette.
This year’s grant recipients include notable organizations such as Coal Creek Meals on Wheels, Community Food Share, and YMCA of Northern Colorado. Each organization will receive targeted funding to enhance their community programs, with the funding breakdown revealing amounts like $3,500 for Community Food Share and $3,750 for Sister Carmen Community Center.
The One Lafayette grant program has evolved since its inception in the early 2000s. In December 2024, the administration transitioned to the Community Foundation after Lafayette voters approved a dedicated mental health and human services sales tax in 2021. This tax is designed to provide a sustainable revenue source for community grants, allowing local leaders to better address the needs of residents.
Authorities confirm that this strategic move is intended to streamline grant processes and expand community impact. Lafayette City Manager Kady Doelling stated, “Much has evolved since the creation of the fund in 2008,” emphasizing the importance of adapting to current community needs.
The Community Foundation’s Sarah Harrison expressed gratitude for the partnership with Lafayette, stating, “We are honored to carry on the work of the One Lafayette fund.” The foundation’s new approach involves a comprehensive review process, with over 80 community volunteers assessing proposals and recommending grants.
The anticipated impact of this year’s funding is substantial, with the community eagerly awaiting the outcomes. The foundation expects annual grant totals to remain consistent with this year’s disbursement, although specific figures for the fund’s current balance remain undisclosed.
Community members are encouraged to contribute to the One Lafayette fund, which is crucial for sustaining these vital services. Donations can be mailed to the City of Lafayette with “One Lafayette” noted in the memo line.
This funding initiative not only supports local nonprofits but also strengthens community resilience, ensuring that essential services continue to thrive in Lafayette. As the program moves forward under the new administration, residents will be watching closely for updates on how these grants will transform lives in their community.
Stay tuned for further developments on the One Lafayette fund and its impact on local nonprofits as we continue to monitor this evolving story.
