Oklahoma City Thunder Stuns Jazz with 33-4 Run, Wins 144-112
UPDATE: The Oklahoma City Thunder delivered a stunning performance against the Utah Jazz, winning 144-112 in NBA Cup action on November 10, 2023. The Thunder executed a jaw-dropping 33-4 run to secure the victory, improving their record to 16-1 and extending their winning streak to eight games.
The Thunder trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half before launching their impressive comeback. This victory marks the largest win by any team that has trailed by 15 points or more in the play-by-play era, which has been tracked since 1997-98. Oklahoma City’s remarkable ability to rally emphasizes their status as the only team in the league without a loss when facing double-digit deficits, now boasting a perfect 5-0 record in such situations.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was the standout player, scoring 31 points and making all three of his attempts from beyond the arc, along with 9-of-13 shooting from the field and 10-of-12 from the free-throw line. His performance further solidifies his dominance this season, as he has now recorded 30-plus points in 14 of his first 17 games, the most remarkable start since Michael Jordan in the 1986-87 season.
The Thunder took control in the third quarter, outscoring the Jazz 43-20 and showcasing their defensive prowess by forcing 28 turnovers, which translated into 44 points for Oklahoma City. Their aggressive defense visibly frustrated Utah’s players, disrupting their offensive sets and pushing them to the brink.
Despite their 0-3 record in tournament play, the Jazz had strong performances from Keyonte George, who scored 20 points, and Lauri Markkanen, who added 19. However, their early lead of 44-30 after the first quarter was not enough to maintain momentum against the Thunder’s relentless comeback.
The Thunder demonstrated their exceptional shooting skills, hitting 61.4% from the field and a season-best 62.2% on three-point attempts, making 23 of 37 shots from beyond the arc. Isaiah Joe contributed significantly as well, scoring 16 points and helping the team capitalize on their scoring opportunities.
Head coach Mark Daigneault’s technical foul in the first half highlighted the intensity of the game, as he argued a non-call at the halftime buzzer. The Thunder’s resilience and ability to regroup after trailing shows their potential as serious contenders this season.
As the NBA Cup continues, all eyes will be on Oklahoma City to see if they can maintain this momentum and further extend their winning streak. With a flawless record in comeback situations, fans are eager to see how the Thunder will face their next challenges.
Stay tuned for more updates on this thrilling season as the action unfolds.
