Mother of Two Shot Dead at Covina Storage Facility; Suspect Arrested
URGENT UPDATE: A mother of two, Patricia Villa, was shot and killed while working at a storage facility in Covina, California, on November 2, just before closing time. The accused gunman, identified as Juan Nava, a 66-year-old customer of the facility, is now in police custody. This shocking act of violence has left family, friends, and coworkers reeling.
The tragic incident occurred around 5 p.m. when security footage captured a masked Nava arriving at the facility. Witnesses reported he appeared to prepare himself before entering the building. “He parked his car, put on a mask, and armed himself,” said Frank Villa, Patricia’s father. “When we couldn’t reach her, we drove to the facility and found her lying inside.”
Patricia had been shot five times, leaving her loved ones devastated. Hundreds gathered for an emotional vigil on Saturday, with friends and family praising her as a dedicated employee and loving partner. “Patricia was a non-violent person… why did this have to happen to her?” Frank Villa mournfully questioned. Deann Pancheri, a coworker, added, “She brought light to everybody.”
Authorities report that Nava might have been experiencing a mental health crisis at the time of the shooting. Following the incident, police utilized facial recognition technology to identify him and subsequently arrested him. A search of his residence uncovered an arsenal of weapons, including automatic firearms.
A GoFundMe page has been established to support Patricia’s family during this difficult time. “I don’t know how anybody could plan for something like this,” Pancheri expressed, highlighting the randomness of the tragedy.
As of now, no bail has been set for Nava, whose next court appearance is scheduled for December 9. The community continues to grieve the loss of a vibrant life taken too soon, with many questioning how such a senseless act of violence could occur in their neighborhood.
