UPDATE: Major League Baseball is witnessing its most-viewed postseason in the United States since 2017, with viewership averaging 4.48 million fans, according to data from MLB and Nielsen. This 13% increase over last year is fueled primarily by the excitement of the first two rounds of playoff games.

The American League Championship Series (ALCS) has been particularly captivating, averaging 4.99 million viewers across all seven games, matching last year’s impressive figures when the New York Yankees triumphed over the Cleveland Guardians in five games.

The postseason excitement reached a peak during the thrilling Game 7 showdown between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Seattle Mariners, where 9.03 million viewers tuned in, marking the most-watched ALCS game in eight years. The viewership peaked at an astonishing 12.35 million during the ninth inning, showcasing the high stakes and emotional intensity of the moment.

This postseason surge is not limited to the U.S.; MLB has also experienced significant growth in Canada and Japan. Toronto’s victory, catapulting them into the World Series for the first time since 1993, attracted an average of 6 million viewers in Canada, making it the most-watched Blue Jays game on Sportsnet.

In Japan, the performance of Shohei Ohtani in Game 4 garnered an average of 10.26 million viewers, marking it as the second most-watched LCS game in the country’s history. With the 16-hour time difference between Tokyo and Los Angeles, the game aired on Saturday morning in Japan, illustrating Ohtani’s global appeal and the international fanbase MLB is cultivating.

The National League Championship Series (NLCS) is also breaking records, averaging 7.34 million viewers in Japan, a remarkable 26% increase over last year. Fans are flocking to see stars like Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Roki Sasaki, solidifying the MLB’s status as a global sports phenomenon.

As the postseason continues, fans are eagerly anticipating what’s next. With the World Series just on the horizon, MLB’s commitment to enhancing viewer engagement is proving successful, making this postseason one for the record books.

Stay tuned for more updates as the excitement unfolds!
