Massachusetts Faces Cold Front; Freezing Rain Risk This Weekend
UPDATE: Massachusetts residents should brace for a cold and blustery Friday, with the National Weather Service warning of a potential freezing rain event this weekend. Temperatures will struggle to reach the mid-40s across most of the state, while the Berkshires and northern Central Massachusetts may barely hit 40 degrees.
Gusty winds will exacerbate the chill, making it feel significantly colder throughout the day. Boston is projected to see a high of 46 degrees and a low of 29 degrees, while Hyannis will reach 45 degrees and drop to 31 degrees overnight. In Pittsfield, a slight chance of rain and snow showers is expected this afternoon, with highs barely reaching 40 degrees and lows plummeting to 22 degrees. Springfield will enjoy mostly sunny skies with a high of 46 degrees and a low of 25 degrees, while Worcester will see highs of 43 degrees and lows around 26 degrees.
As night falls, temperatures are forecasted to dip into the low and mid-20s statewide, although coastal areas may remain slightly warmer. Saturday will begin with sunshine, but forecasters predict clouds will roll in by afternoon, leading to rain in the evening.
Precipitation is expected to intensify overnight, primarily impacting those in elevated terrains at risk for freezing rain. While conditions are not anticipated to turn icy as temperatures gradually rise, residents should remain vigilant. Rainfall is expected to conclude by Sunday morning, with a cold front moving out of the state. Initially, temperatures could reach the low 50s, but a drastic drop into the 30s is expected by afternoon, accompanied by wind gusts potentially reaching 40 mph.
Stay updated as the situation develops and prepare for challenging conditions this weekend.
