UPDATE: Kansas’ top recruit, Darryn Peterson, will miss another crucial game due to a persistent hamstring injury, head coach Bill Self confirmed on Friday. The No. 25 Kansas Jayhawks are set to face Princeton this Saturday without their star player, who is projected as a potential No. 1 pick in the upcoming NBA draft.

Peterson, who sat out Tuesday’s dominant 77-46 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, sustained the injury during a shootaround. Coach Self revealed, “For whatever reason it’s still sore… as long as it’s still this sore, there’s no reason to put him out there yet.”

The immediate concern is how this injury will impact Kansas as they prepare for a series of high-stakes games. Next week, the Jayhawks will head to New York to take on No. 4 Duke in the prestigious Champions Classic. They are also scheduled to play against Notre Dame and Syracuse in Las Vegas and face third-ranked UConn at Allen Fieldhouse on December 2.

Peterson made a striking debut earlier this season, scoring 21 points in just 22 minutes against Green Bay and 22 points against North Carolina. However, he has been plagued by cramping issues that limited his playtime in preseason matches.

As the Jayhawks gear up for their upcoming schedule, fans are left anxious about Peterson’s recovery. Coach Self remains cautiously optimistic, stating, “Right now, a couple of days, I’m not [concerned].” He noted that while Peterson practiced prior to Tuesday’s game, the tightness has persisted.

With the pressure mounting, all eyes will be on the young star’s recovery as Kansas looks to maintain momentum against top-tier opponents. Stay tuned for the latest updates on Peterson’s status and the Jayhawks’ performance.
