UPDATE: A man from Gary, Corey Jones, 43, has been charged with multiple felonies, including rape, following a harrowing incident in a senior apartment bathroom. The allegations arise from an incident that occurred on November 3, 2023, where the victim claims she was assaulted after refusing to perform a sex act for $10.

Authorities report that the victim, who described herself as “emotionally distressed,” called the Gary Police for assistance. She informed detectives that Jones, her boyfriend, choked and raped her in a bathroom located in the Al Thomas Senior High Rise on the 100 block of W. 11th Avenue.

Jones has been charged with two counts of rape, two counts of criminal confinement, one count of domestic battery, one count of strangulation, and one count of intimidation. He is currently in custody, held on a $12,000 cash bond, with his next court appearance scheduled for November 12 before Judge Gina Jones.

Details reveal that earlier that day, Jones and the victim had left a hotel in Merrillville and proceeded to run errands, including selling shoes and purchasing food and alcohol. Tensions escalated when Jones allegedly belittled the woman and threatened her during their time at a local park.

Inside the apartment, the victim encountered an older man who propositioned Jones for her. In the affidavit, the older man stated, “I know she’s a white girl, so I’ll (have sex with) her anyway,” before offering Jones $10 for the act. When the woman refused, Jones became aggressive, forcing her into the bathroom and threatening her life.

According to the victim, when she demanded to leave, Jones choked her until she lost consciousness. Upon regaining awareness, she found Jones assaulting her. After the assault, he took her underwear, claiming he didn’t want her with his “DNA.”

After the horrific encounter, the victim managed to escape past the older man and left the building. She walked south on Broadway Avenue and used a passerby’s cellphone to call for help.

The victim reported previous incidents of abuse but had not filed charges due to fear for her safety. “I was terrified of him,” she stated. The police responded promptly, leading to Jones’s arrest later that day on the 1100 block of Broadway Ave.

This distressing case highlights critical issues of domestic violence and the urgent need for support systems for victims. Authorities encourage anyone experiencing similar situations to seek help immediately.

Further developments are expected as the case proceeds, and community members are urged to stay informed.
