Frontier Airlines Halts Palm Springs Flights Starting November 29
UPDATE: Frontier Airlines is set to cease all operations at Palm Springs International Airport in just hours. Effective November 29, 2023, the budget airline will no longer offer flights to popular destinations like Denver and San Francisco, citing shifting travel demand and ongoing adjustments within the aviation industry.
This abrupt decision impacts thousands of travelers who rely on this airport for access to the Coachella Valley each month. Frontier’s announcement last week has raised concerns, but a spokesperson assured passengers that alternatives remain. “Palm Springs International Airport is not losing any nonstop destinations following Frontier’s decision,” the spokesperson confirmed.
Travelers can still fly to Denver and San Francisco with United Airlines and Southwest Airlines, as well as United and Alaska Airlines for the San Francisco route. PSP continues to report strong growth, with passenger numbers up nearly 5 percent year-to-date compared to last year, suggesting ongoing demand for air travel in the region.
Despite pulling out of Palm Springs, Frontier is expanding its operations elsewhere. Last week, the airline launched a new nonstop route from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Furthermore, the airline has plans for multiple new routes beginning in January 2024, including flights from New Jersey, Florida, Illinois, Utah, and Arizona.
On January 21, 2024, a three-weekly nonstop service from Newark Liberty International Airport to Orlando International Airport will begin, followed by a twice-weekly nonstop service from Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) to Tucson International Airport (TUS) on January 22, 2024. Additional routes are set to launch in February, connecting Miami International Airport (MIA) to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Pensacola International Airport (PNS).
To celebrate these new routes, Frontier is offering introductory fares starting at $29. “These new routes will provide consumers with more affordable connectivity across the United States beginning in early 2026,” said Josh Flyr, Vice President of Network and Operations Design at Frontier Airlines.
As the aviation landscape continues to evolve, travelers are encouraged to explore the available options at Palm Springs International Airport and stay tuned for more updates on Frontier’s expanding routes.
