Freshman Cameron Boozer Scores 35 Points in Duke Victory
BREAKING: Freshman Cameron Boozer has made a powerful statement in his fourth college game, scoring 35 points to lead the fourth-ranked Duke Blue Devils to a commanding 100-62 victory over Indiana State on November 10, 2023. This impressive performance ties him for the second-most points scored by a Duke freshman in a game, trailing only Cooper Flagg‘s 42 points last season against Notre Dame.
With this achievement, Boozer joins elite company alongside Zion Williamson and Jared McCain, both of whom also scored 35 points in their freshman seasons. His scoring surpassed that of Marvin Bagley III and JJ Redick, who each recorded 34 points in their first years at Duke.
Duke head coach Jon Scheyer praised Boozer’s competitive spirit, stating, “Just his approach… he’s such a competitor.” Boozer’s efficiency was notable, hitting 13 of 16 shots from the field and connecting on both of his three-point attempts, despite going 7-for-11 at the free-throw line. “I don’t know how you could be more efficient,” Scheyer added. “I think his three misses, he got all the rebounds and scored them.”
In addition to his scoring prowess, Boozer also contributed significantly on the boards, grabbing a team-high 12 rebounds and dishing out 5 assists. Teammate Caleb Foster remarked on Boozer’s dominance in the paint, saying, “He gets it down in the paint, he’s going to attack the rim, it’s hard to stop him.”
Boozer’s performance is a clear indicator of his potential as he heads into a highly anticipated matchup against No. 25 Kansas on Tuesday night, where he is currently averaging 22.5 points per game. Coach Scheyer encourages Boozer to be even more aggressive with his scoring. “I just think it speaks to his character,” he said. “I actually want him to be more aggressive with his scoring.”
This thrilling win not only underscores Boozer’s talent but also sets the stage for what fans can expect from the Blue Devils this season. With the energy surrounding Boozer’s early success, the upcoming game promises to be a must-watch event for college basketball enthusiasts.
