Former Rutgers Players Shine in 2025-26 Season Openers
BREAKING: Former Rutgers basketball stars made an immediate impact during their first games with new teams in the 2025-26 season on November 6, 2025. With the Scarlet Knights set to open their season on November 8, the trio of players who transferred this offseason showcased their skills and helped their new teams secure critical victories.
Lathan Sommerville led the way for Washington, scoring 9 points and grabbing 5 rebounds in a dominant 94-50 win over Arkansas Pine-Bluff. Coming off the bench, Sommerville made 7-of-8 free throws and contributed defensively with one block.
Meanwhile, Jordan Derkack had a strong debut with Dayton, contributing 3 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals in a convincing 88-48 victory against Canisius. Derkack played 17 minutes off the bench, showing his playmaking abilities in a well-rounded performance.
At Georgetown, Jeremiah Williams added 7 points and 3 assists in a solid 87-70 win over Morgan State. Williams made 2-of-4 shots in his 19 minutes on the court, proving to be a valuable asset off the bench.
In addition, two more former Scarlet Knights also had impressive performances. Antwone Woolfolk of Miami of Ohio scored 12 points and secured 5 rebounds as a starter in an 87-72 win over Old Dominion. Meanwhile, Derek Simpson of Saint Joseph’s contributed 11 points and 5 assists in a hard-fought 85-76 victory against Lafayette.
As for the remaining former Scarlet Knights, Gavin Griffiths and Antonio Chol are set to debut with their teams on November 8, with Griffiths’ Temple squad facing Delaware State and Chol’s New Mexico team taking on East Texas A&M.
These performances highlight the impact of transfers in college basketball, as players adapt to new systems and continue to develop their skills.
