Ernie Clement Sets Record with 30 Playoff Hits in World Series
BREAKING: Toronto Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement made history on Saturday night, becoming the first player to achieve 30 hits in a single postseason during Game 7 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. This remarkable feat surpasses the previous record of 29 hits set by Randy Arozarena in 2020.
Clement’s record-breaking performance included three hits, elevating his postseason batting average to an impressive .417. The 29-year-old achieved the milestone with a leadoff double in the eighth inning that chased Dodgers reliever Emmet Sheehan, solidifying his place in baseball history.
The Blue Jays faced the Dodgers in a nail-biting conclusion to the World Series, ultimately losing in extra innings. Clement nearly clinched victory for Toronto in the bottom of the ninth, but his long drive to left-center was caught at the warning track with the bases loaded, keeping the game tied at 4-4 before heading into extras.
This postseason marks Clement’s first, and he has already set a Blue Jays record by extending his hitting streak to 13 games, surpassing the previous record held by catcher Pat Borders in 1992. With one home run and nine RBIs, Clement has been a key player in Toronto’s playoff run.
Before joining the Blue Jays, Clement was drafted by the Cleveland Guardians in 2017 but faced challenges, including being designated for assignment in September 2022. After a brief stint with the Athletics, he signed a minor league deal with Toronto, where he played a career-high 157 games in the regular season, hitting .277 with nine home runs and 50 RBIs.
This historic achievement not only highlights Clement’s talent but also adds to the excitement surrounding the Blue Jays as they navigate the postseason. Fans are eager to see how this record-setting performance will influence the team’s future.
As the aftermath of the World Series unfolds, all eyes will be on Clement and the Blue Jays as they look to build on this historic season. Stay tuned for further updates on player performances and team developments in the coming days.
