BREAKING: Easton Area High School football team just secured a stunning 35-6 victory over rival Phillipsburg, showcasing an impressive performance at Lafayette College’s Fisher Stadium on November 23, 2023. This win marks a significant milestone, giving Easton its record-breaking 14th win in a single season.

Senior lineman Anthony Diaz made his last game unforgettable by scoring a touchdown, a dream come true for any player in his position. Diaz recovered a blocked punt by teammate Sean Kilpatrick in the end zone, extending Easton’s lead to 21-0 early in the second quarter. “It was a perfect ending, scoring a touchdown,” Diaz stated, emphasizing the joy of celebrating this moment with his teammates and the passionate Rover Nation student section.

Kilpatrick, who played a pivotal role in the game’s momentum, remarked, “To get a big play like that, to block the punt, score off of it—it was a real momentum swing.” This sentiment was echoed by Easton coach Matt Senneca, who highlighted the significance of Kilpatrick’s play in a high-stakes matchup.

The game took a dramatic turn when Easton’s defense forced Phillipsburg into a series of costly mistakes. After a brief interception by Phillipsburg, Easton quickly responded with a turnover of their own, showcasing their relentless drive. Senior defensive players Skyler Fowlin and Algee Macon executed a perfect tackle, forcing Phillipsburg’s quarterback to fumble, which was recovered by senior Elijah Edwards at the 15-yard line. Just moments later, Chris Martinez ran it in for another touchdown, further solidifying Easton’s commanding lead.

Macon, recognized as the game’s Defensive Most Valuable Player, emphasized the teamwork and effort that characterized Easton’s strategy: “The (defensive) box is nothing but seniors. So just go get him (Dominic Bracco), it’s our last game.” He also contributed another strip sack in the fourth quarter that set up Easton’s final touchdown.

Senior quarterback Cole Ordway led the Rovers with 108 rushing yards and was named Offensive MVP. “That line we have is something special,” Ordway expressed, praising his team’s ability to protect him throughout the game.

Easton’s defense was relentless, holding Phillipsburg to just 135 yards on the ground, marking only the third time this season Phillipsburg failed to rush for over 150 yards. Kilpatrick noted the importance of matching Phillipsburg’s intensity, stating, “We just knew we had to match their physicality.”

This victory is particularly meaningful for Easton, who just two years ago faced a devastating loss to Phillipsburg, ending a challenging season. Coach Senneca praised his senior class for their determination and leadership, stating, “They put their heads down two years ago and went to work hard, now you see the results.”

As Easton celebrates this historic win, Macon reflected, “For the past couple of years, Easton football wasn’t as good… I’m glad this team put it on the map. We definitely made our stamp on history.”

With the season complete, Easton football has not only triumphed over a fierce rival but also solidified its legacy with an unprecedented winning record. Fans and players alike will remember this game as a defining moment in Easton football history.
