UPDATE: Costco has just expanded its recall of the Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene, warning that certain bottles may pose a significant risk as they can EXPLODE unexpectedly. This urgent recall now affects more than 941,400 bottles, a dramatic increase from the initial 400,000 bottles reported in September.

The recall was officially announced on November 6, 2025, and it is crucial for Costco members in states including Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin to take immediate action. The affected bottles were sold from April 2025 through August 2025.

Costco has confirmed that these unopened bottles may spontaneously shatter, posing a significant danger to consumers. The bottles in question are packaged in green glass with a purple foil top and a purple label that reads “Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG.” The UPC Code for the product is 196633883742, and the Costco item number is 1879870.

If you have purchased this product, DO NOT open it. Instead, follow these crucial disposal instructions provided by Costco:
1. Wrap the unopened bottle in paper towels.
2. Place it inside a thick plastic bag.
3. Dispose of it in regular household garbage; DO NOT return it to Costco.

Costco assures customers that they can receive a refund for the product even without a receipt. Customers are advised to keep their recall notice and present it when requesting a refund.

In light of this recall, Costco urges members to check their purchase history for any bottles bought between April 25 and August 26, 2025. If you or anyone you know has been injured by shards of glass or cork from these bottles, seek medical attention immediately and document the incident for potential claims.

For further questions regarding this recall or refund processes, Costco members can contact Ethica Wines at 786-810-7132 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday, or email [email protected].
