Bucks Coach Rivers Confirms No Major Changes After 45-Point Loss
UPDATE: Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers has just confirmed that no significant changes will be made to the team following an alarming 45-point loss to the Brooklyn Nets, marking the Nets’ most lopsided victory in franchise history. As the Bucks currently sit at 11-16, they are struggling to find their footing without two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who has been sidelined for two weeks due to a right calf strain.
Rivers expressed confidence in his team’s potential, stating, “We like our team. I really like this team.” However, he acknowledged their poor performance, saying, “We’re not playing well for a lot of reasons.” With the Bucks having not won back-to-back games since October 28-30, the urgency for improvement is palpable.
After suffering a humiliating 127-82 defeat to Brooklyn on Sunday, the Bucks have had the rare opportunity to practice back-to-back days, aiming to address their recent struggles. The team is set to return to action on Thursday, December 7, 2023, against the Toronto Raptors.
“It was just an embarrassing game for us, at the end of the day,” said guard Ryan Rollins. “Having those days (off) and having to sit on that loss definitely makes it worse. I think we all had an eye opener.”
The Bucks have gone 2-8 without Antetokounmpo, and speculation surrounding his future with the team is intensifying. Rivers has disputed an ESPN report suggesting that Antetokounmpo is in discussions about whether to remain in Milwaukee or seek a trade. Despite the challenges, Rivers insists, “This is not where we’re at. We’re not even thinking in those terms.”
While Milwaukee started the season strong, winning four of their first five games, they have struggled significantly since, with a 7-15 record in their last 22 games. The Bucks have impressive wins against teams like the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors but have also lost crucial matchups to teams like Washington and Sacramento.
As the team gears up for their next game, players are focused on recapturing their early-season energy. “When you start to lose, obviously it knocks your spirit a bit,” noted Myles Turner. “Again, it’s just really no time for excuses at this point. You have to go out there and perform.”
Rivers emphasized the importance of execution over simply trying harder. “Something has to give you confidence to do it over and over again,” he stated, highlighting the need for a strategic approach rather than emotional responses to their struggles.
As the Bucks prepare for their upcoming game, fans are eager to see if the time off has yielded the necessary adjustments. With their season on the line, all eyes will be on Milwaukee as they take on the Raptors and seek to turn their fortunes around.
