Brown University Shooting Suspect Claudio Valente Found Dead

UPDATE: The suspect in the tragic mass shooting at Brown University has been found dead. Claudio Neves Valente, a 48-year-old former student from Portugal, was discovered at a storage facility in New Hampshire on Thursday evening, following a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Providence Police Chief Col. Oscar Perez.

This shocking development comes just days after Valente allegedly opened fire in a university lecture hall on September 30, 2023, resulting in the deaths of two students and injuries to nine others. Authorities believe he also murdered Nuno F.G. Loureiro, a Portuguese MIT professor, at his home on October 3, 2023.

Valente had a brief tenure at Brown, studying physics from fall 2000 to spring 2001, as confirmed by Brown University President Christina Paxson. She emphasized that he has no current affiliation with the university. Notably, Valente and Loureiro were classmates at a university in Portugal from 1995 to 2000, as stated by U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Leah B. Foley.
