Bad Bunny Defends Against Backlash for Sitting at Yankee Stadium
UPDATE: Bad Bunny is facing backlash for sitting during “God Bless America” at Yankee Stadium, but supporters, including sports superfan Laurence Leavy, are urging calm. Leavy, known as “Marlins Man,” spoke to TMZ, emphasizing that Bad Bunny broke no rules by remaining seated during the performance.
Leavy, who was sitting next to Bad Bunny during the incident on October 1, 2023, expressed frustration over the criticism directed at the artist. “People need to relax,” he stated. “It’s not against the law to sit during the anthem. We have bigger issues to worry about.” This sentiment highlights the growing concerns around the public’s quick judgments over celebrity actions.
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, reportedly arrived late and left early, causing some fans to speculate he was intentionally avoiding the anthem. Leavy clarified, however, that the situation appeared to stem from poor timing rather than a political statement. “He was glued to his phone and caught off guard,” Leavy explained.
“It looked more like bad timing than some kind of major political statement,”
Leavy added, defending the artist against what he considers an exaggerated scandal.
The optics of the incident did not help, especially as Bad Bunny was in disguise while Leavy donned an eye-catching outfit. However, Leavy insists that the criticism is unwarranted and should not have escalated as it did.
Fans and critics alike reacted strongly, with many taking to social media to voice their opinions. The incident has sparked a broader conversation about the expectations placed on celebrities at public events, particularly in the context of national pride and patriotism. As the debate continues, it remains clear that this event has struck a chord with fans, igniting discussions about celebrity behavior in public venues.
As the situation develops, it will be interesting to see how Bad Bunny and his team respond to the ongoing backlash. For now, it seems the focus should shift from judgment to understanding, as the world grapples with more pressing matters.
