Authorities Bust Major Ghost Gun Operation in Campbell Apartment

URGENT UPDATE: Authorities have dismantled a significant ghost gun operation in a Campbell apartment, leading to the arrest of a 28-year-old man who allegedly manufactured illegal firearms. This operation was uncovered during a routine compliance check related to his domestic violence probation earlier this week, coinciding with Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The operation was revealed as part of a sweeping initiative by Santa Clara County law enforcement aimed at ensuring compliance with probation conditions. Officials confirmed the suspect is facing more than 30 felony charges, including possession and manufacturing of machine guns, as well as child endangerment due to the presence of firearms within reach of two children living at the residence.
During the operation, a collaborative team from the San Jose Police Department, Santa Clara police, the sheriff’s office, and county probation discovered two loaded firearms, three nearly completed guns, and 35 devices designed to alter semi-automatic guns to fully automatic fire. Authorities also reported finding a 3D printer in the apartment, actively producing gun components.
District Attorney Jeff Rosen stated, “Our task force shut down a busy criminal ghost machine gun factory in the middle of an apartment building. The defendant who was flooding our community with illegal weapons is now behind bars.” This operation comes shortly after the signing of a new California law prohibiting the sale of certain semi-automatic firearms, further underscoring the urgency of addressing illegal gun manufacturing.
The guns discovered were classified as ghost guns, meaning they lack serial numbers and are untraceable by law enforcement. This critical operation highlights the ongoing struggle against illegal firearms in California, especially as the state pushes for increased use of gun-violence restraining orders (GVROs).
Santa Clara County has been a leader in securing GVROs over the past two years, although statewide adoption has varied. Officials emphasize the importance of curbing gun violence and ensuring public safety as communities grapple with the implications of illegal firearms.
Next Steps: Authorities will continue to monitor compliance within probation systems as part of their broader strategy to combat gun violence. Residents are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement. The case is developing, with further details expected as the investigation unfolds.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges law enforcement faces in controlling illegal firearms and the need for community involvement in addressing these pressing issues. Stay tuned for updates on this breaking story.
