Arman Tsarukyan Demands BMF Bout After UFC Title Snub
UPDATE: UFC lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan is urgently calling for a BMF title fight against Max Holloway after being overlooked for an interim lightweight title match scheduled for January 24, 2024, at UFC 324 in Las Vegas. Tsarukyan (23-3), the No. 1 ranked contender at 155 pounds, expressed his frustration as the UFC chose to feature a bout between Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett, ranked Nos. 4 and 5, respectively.
The UFC’s decision follows the announcement by undisputed champion Ilia Topuria that he will be taking time off to address personal issues, prompting the need for an interim title. Tsarukyan stated it is “hard” to accept being sidelined but emphasized he cannot wait indefinitely for the situation to change.
“It’s a business,” Tsarukyan told ESPN. “At the end of the day, I have the same goal. Everybody knows that I will beat everybody and it’s just [a matter of] time. I hope they give me the BMF title at least.” He questioned the available contenders in the division, suggesting Holloway as a credible opponent.
Holloway (27-8), fresh off a five-round decision victory against Dustin Poirier in July, has also expressed interest in facing former champion Charles Oliveira. Tsarukyan believes the UFC is pushing Pimblett too aggressively and expressed his hope that Gaethje will end this trend in their upcoming fight.
“Justin, if you need the help, let me know and I’ll fly to you,” Tsarukyan said, offering to assist Gaethje ahead of the January matchup. “I want him to [beat] that bulls— guy. I hate him. He’s such a b—-.” Tsarukyan is determined to avoid conflict at UFC 324, stating he would confront Pimblett if present.
The winner of the Gaethje-Pimblett interim title fight is expected to face Topuria later in 2026, according to UFC CEO Dana White. This means Tsarukyan could face a significant wait for his title shot, potentially as long as a year. Nonetheless, the 29-year-old remains confident about his future prospects.
“That [Topuria] fight is going to happen for sure,” Tsarukyan asserted. “Everybody is saying, ‘Arman, Arman, Arman.’ Everybody knows it’s bulls—. The next champion is here.” Tsarukyan’s determination signals a fierce desire to reclaim his position in the lightweight division and secure a championship opportunity.
As UFC fans eagerly await the developments from UFC 324, Tsarukyan’s plea for a BMF bout adds a compelling layer to the upcoming fight card, making it clear that he aims to reclaim his spotlight in the octagon.
