Aaron Paul Confirms He Won’t Return as Powerplex in ‘Invincible’
URGENT UPDATE: Aaron Paul has just confirmed he will not reprise his role as Powerplex in the upcoming seasons of Prime Video’s Invincible. In a revealing discussion on the Kinda Funny podcast, Paul explained that the emotional weight of the character was “too grueling” for him to continue.
The actor, known for his iconic role in Breaking Bad, expressed his discomfort with returning to the animated character, stating he “didn’t feel comfortable” stepping back into the role of Scott Duvall. Paul clarified, “What it did to me, I didn’t like,” highlighting the emotional toll the character took on him.
Powerplex debuted in the season three episode “All I Can Say is Sorry,” where his backstory involves a tragic confrontation with Mark, resulting in the accidental deaths of his wife and son. This intense episode left Mark grappling with heavy emotional repercussions. Powerplex’s appearance in the subsequent episode, “What Have I Done?,” further showcased his vengeful nature as he engaged in battles against alternate universe variants of Invincible.
Despite Paul’s departure, fans of the Invincible comics can expect to see more of Powerplex in future storylines, albeit voiced by a different actor. The character remains a significant threat to Mark and others in the series, ensuring the stakes remain high.
Invincible is set to return with its highly anticipated fourth season in March 2024. For those eager to hear Aaron Paul in another superhero role, he is featured in AdHoc Studio’s Dispatch, which recently received a nomination at the Game Awards.
As fans react to this unexpected news, Paul’s decision underscores the emotional challenges actors face in bringing complex characters to life. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the new season of Invincible.
