UConn’s Tarris Reed Jr. Ruled Out for Clash Against Arizona
Third-ranked UConn will face a significant challenge as they prepare to take on fourth-ranked Arizona on March 15, 2024. The team announced that Tarris Reed Jr., their leading scorer and rebounder, will be sidelined due to an ankle injury. The injury has rendered Reed’s availability game-to-game, according to a statement from the university.
The absence of the 6-foot-11 senior from St. Louis is a notable blow to the Huskies. Reed has been a standout player, averaging 20 points and 9.3 rebounds in just over 25 minutes per game this season. His last performance was particularly impressive, where he scored 21 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in a recent victory against seventh-ranked BYU during the Hall of Fame Series held at TD Garden in Boston.
Injury Context and Team Impact
This season has been tumultuous for Reed, who missed the opening game against New Haven and both exhibition matches due to a hamstring injury sustained during the preseason. Despite these setbacks, he had started the last three games prior to the announcement of his ankle injury.
The challenges do not end with Reed’s absence. Braylon Mullins, the preseason Big East Freshman of the Year, is also unavailable as he continues to recover from his own ankle injury. This leaves UConn with a thinner roster as they face one of the top teams in the nation.
Fortunately for the Huskies, freshman Jacob Furphy is available to step onto the court. His contributions could be crucial as UConn seeks to maintain its competitive edge in this highly anticipated matchup.
The game against Arizona will be a key test for UConn as they aim to solidify their position among the elite teams in college basketball. With Reed out, the remaining players will need to step up to fill the void left by their star forward.
