LeBron James participated in practice with the G League’s South Bay Lakers on Thursday, demonstrating no lingering effects from the rigorous workout he completed the previous day. This marks a significant milestone for James, as it was his first five-on-five practice since the first round of the playoffs over six months ago. According to sources familiar with the situation, the absence of pain is a promising development as he prepares for what could be his historic 23rd season in the NBA.

Having turned 41 next month, James missed all of training camp and the Los Angeles Lakers’ initial 12 games of the season due to sciatica, a condition characterized by nerve pain affecting his lower back and extending down his right side. His current practice with the G League affiliate comes while the Lakers are on a five-game road trip, facing the New Orleans Pelicans on 24 November and the Milwaukee Bucks on 25 November.

During Wednesday’s practice, described as “intense” by an insider, James showcased his readiness to return to competitive play. On Thursday, under the guidance of South Bay coach Zach Guthrie, he fully participated in the practice session, completing the five-on-five live segment without any reported pain or discomfort.

Looking ahead, the Lakers plan to hold a practice on Monday, 27 November, in El Segundo, California, following their road trip. If James continues to progress through the weekend, he could join his team ahead of their upcoming game against the Utah Jazz on Tuesday, 28 November. The Lakers will then face the Jazz again on the road on Sunday, 3 December.

In related news from the South Bay Lakers, the team has made a notable acquisition, trading for guard Kobe Bufkin from the Motor City Cruise in exchange for a first-round pick in the 2027 G League draft. Bufkin, a 6-foot-5 player, was the 15th overall selection in the 2023 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks. As part of this roster adjustment, South Bay has waived guard Jace Carter.

James’ return to form remains a focal point for both the Lakers and their fans, as his experience and skill could significantly influence the team’s performance as the season progresses.
