Barcelona Targets Kane and Álvarez as Lewandowski’s Future Uncertain
Barcelona is actively seeking a replacement for veteran striker Robert Lewandowski, who is set to become a free agent in the summer of 2024. The club is reportedly eyeing two prominent forwards: Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur and Julián Álvarez of Atlético Madrid. Both players are seen as potential successors to the 37-year-old Lewandowski, who has made significant contributions to the team since joining from Bayern Munich in 2022.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona’s interest in Kane has intensified recently. The English striker has enjoyed a remarkable start to the season, and his contract includes a release clause of €65 million. Álvarez, aged 25, poses a more challenging pursuit for Barcelona, as he is under contract until the summer of 2030, with a potential transfer fee estimated at around €100 million. In addition to bolstering their forward line, Barcelona is also expected to search for a new left-back, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Alejandro Grimaldo emerging as a strong candidate.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich is turning its attention to Brazilian talent, particularly Rayan, a forward from Vasco da Gama. The 19-year-old has made a significant impact this season, netting 12 goals in just 31 appearances in the Brazilian top flight. His performance has attracted interest from numerous European clubs, making him a hot commodity in the transfer market. Bayern is also monitoring Souza, a 19-year-old left-back from Santos, who has drawn comparisons to Brazilian legend Marcelo.
In other transfer news, Manchester City is reportedly in the running to sign Givairo Read, a talented right-back from Feyenoord. The 19-year-old has been linked with Bayern Munich, as the German club seeks a long-term replacement for Konrad Laimer. City is considering a bid for Read, potentially as early as 2026. The Netherlands Under-21 international made his senior debut last month against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Liverpool is facing challenges in their pursuit of Bayern Munich center-back Dayot Upamecano, who has been with the Bavarian club since 2021. Despite his contract expiring this summer, Bayern is optimistic about renewing his terms. If Upamecano does decide to leave, he reportedly prefers a move to either Paris Saint-Germain or Real Madrid.
Chelsea is also active in the transfer market, monitoring João Bezerra, a 16-year-old forward from South America. Bezerra recently signed his first professional contract, which means he cannot join a European club until he turns 18.
As the transfer window approaches, several clubs are positioning themselves for potential moves. Manchester United is reportedly compiling a shortlist of midfielders, including Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace, Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, and Carlos Baleba from Brighton. This strategy anticipates the exit of Casemiro, which could provide the funds needed for a major acquisition.
In addition, clubs are expressing interest in young talents such as RB Leipzig’s Assan Ouédraogo, who is focused on making Germany’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and Galatasaray is considering a move for Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman following the African Cup of Nations.
With numerous players attracting attention across Europe, the upcoming transfer window promises to be dynamic, with clubs eager to strengthen their squads ahead of the next season. As negotiations unfold, fans will be watching closely to see which players will make their moves in the ever-competitive landscape of international football.
