The Alabama Crimson Tide volleyball team achieved a significant milestone by defeating the Missouri Tigers 3-1 on November 17, 2023. This victory, celebrated on senior day at Foster Auditorium, marks the first time Alabama has won back-to-back Southeastern Conference (SEC) matches since 2021. The team’s performance capped off an impressive regular season, showcasing their growth and determination.

Alabama started strong, winning the first set 25-17. Although they lost the second set, they regrouped to take the third and clinched the match with a tightly contested 25-23 victory in the fourth set. Victoria Barrett led the team with an impressive 20 kills, while Hannah Parrant set a new personal best in the SEC with 49 assists.

Coach Rashina Reed, in her fourth year, expressed pride in her team’s development. “It feels amazing. It just goes to show the growth of this team. They have a relentless mindset and attitude. It shows that we’re a team that other teams have to respect, and I’m very proud of these ladies,” she said. Reed reflected on the season’s challenges, emphasizing that the team’s journey has been rewarding.

With a final record of 5-10 in SEC play, Alabama achieved its best performance under Reed, concluding the regular season with an overall record of 13-12. This marks a pivotal turnaround for a program that had faced significant difficulties, including a combined 4-30 record in conference play over the previous two years. The Crimson Tide will enter the SEC Tournament as the 13th seed and will face South Carolina in the opening round on Friday.

Alabama’s victory is not only a testament to their hard work but also signifies the end of a streak of six consecutive losing seasons. The team’s resilience and ability to overcome obstacles have set a new standard for future competitions.

In other Crimson Tide news, the football team faced a tough battle against Oklahoma, narrowly losing 23-21. Bryce Young had a standout performance in the NFL, throwing for a career-high 448 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Carolina Panthers to a 30-27 overtime victory over the Atlanta Falcons. This impressive outing positions Young among the top Alabama quarterbacks in NFL history.

As Alabama’s athletics continue to build momentum, the women’s cross country team received an at-large bid to the NCAA national championships, marking their sixth consecutive appearance.

As the Crimson Tide prepares for the SEC Tournament, the community remains hopeful and excited about what lies ahead for this revitalized volleyball program.
