Ubicept Launches Toolkit for Enhanced Imaging Across Vision Systems

Ubicept, a computer vision startup specializing in advanced imaging, has unveiled its new Ubicept Toolkit, designed to enhance the performance of “any modern vision system.” This innovative toolkit aims to leverage physics-based imaging for a range of applications, from robotics to automotive and industrial sensing.

The Ubicept Toolkit promises immediate improvements in image quality, utilizing a unified approach that delivers reliable data through existing hardware. According to Sebastian Bauer, CEO of Ubicept, “Ubicept’s technology revolutionizes how machines see the world by unlocking the full potential of today’s and tomorrow’s image sensors.” He emphasizes that their physics-based method captures complex motion even in challenging conditions, such as low-light or high-dynamic-range scenarios, offering greater accuracy than traditional AI-enhanced video solutions.

Transforming Vision Systems

The toolkit’s capabilities extend to advanced sensors, particularly benefiting single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) sensors, which are gaining traction in the imaging landscape. With the toolkit, any widely available complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) camera that outputs raw uncompressed data can achieve significant quality enhancements. Tristan Swedish, CTO of Ubicept, stresses that “autonomous systems need a better way to understand the world,” and suggests that their technology is specifically tailored for computer vision applications rather than human consumption.

As SPAD sensors begin to reshape the imaging market, the demand for improved technology is evident. The CMOS sensor market is projected to reach $30 billion by 2029, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.5 percent. In contrast, the SPAD market is anticipated to grow nearly three times faster, with forecasts estimating a market value of $2.55 billion by 2029 and a CAGR of 20.1 percent.

Partnership with Pi Imaging Technology

The Ubicept Toolkit builds upon the capabilities of Pi Imaging Technology’s SPAD Alpha, a cutting-edge 1-megapixel single-photon camera known for its zero read noise and rapid exposure control. This collaboration aims to provide researchers and developers with exceptional temporal precision and light sensitivity, enhancing the overall performance of imaging systems. Michel Antolović, CEO of Pi Imaging Technology, remarks, “Ubicept shares our deep commitment to advancing perception technology,” highlighting the synergy between their hardware and Ubicept’s real-time processing capabilities.

The Toolkit equips engineering teams with essential tools to visualize, capture, and process video data effectively, featuring the Ubicept Photon Fusion (UPF) algorithm. Additionally, the SPAD Toolkit includes the FLARE (Flexible Light Acquisition and Representation Engine) firmware, which optimizes photon capture for improved results.

Ubicept is also offering white-glove support to early adopters, ensuring a premium experience as they transition to this advanced imaging technology. The Ubicept Toolkit is set to be available in December 2025, providing an opportunity for developers to enhance perception performance while integrating seamlessly into existing workflows.
