Scripps Research Institute Announces Fellow Position for Fall 2026
The Scripps Research Institute has opened applications for its prestigious Fellow Position, set to begin in Fall 2026. This opportunity is aimed at scientists who have recently completed their Ph.D. or possess limited postdoctoral experience, typically no more than one year. Located in La Jolla, California, the program seeks to cultivate talent in a collaborative and innovative environment.
Candidates selected as Scripps Research Fellows will be assigned to a faculty sponsor’s laboratory. This structure provides access to essential resources, including lab space and instrumentation, while also ensuring mentorship and guidance throughout their fellowship. The program offers full salary support for the Fellows, along with funding for two lab members over a three-year period. At the end of this term, Fellows will undergo a review process for potential faculty positions either within Scripps Research or at other esteemed institutions.
Scripps Research Fellows are expected to pursue independent research projects but will also have the chance to collaborate with students and postdoctoral researchers affiliated with their faculty sponsor. With full Principal Investigator status, Fellows can apply for external grants to enhance their research programs and foster growth within their academic careers. The Institute’s interdisciplinary strengths allow for a rich supportive network, which is crucial for building a vibrant research community.
To qualify, candidates must possess a recently awarded Ph.D., M.D., D.V.M., or an equivalent degree in a relevant field. They should demonstrate an outstanding record of graduate research, showcasing originality in addressing significant scientific questions. Successful applicants will be expected to establish a proactive research group, engage with faculty members, and contribute to interdisciplinary training and research initiatives.
Applications are being reviewed by an interdisciplinary Search Committee that includes representatives from various scientific disciplines. The initial review of applications will take place starting from December 31, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled or until the close of May 2026.
Interested candidates are required to submit letters of recommendation from three referees, along with a personal statement outlining their career goals, relevant experience, and how they intend to contribute to the objectives of the Scripps Research Fellows Program.
This fellowship represents a significant opportunity for emerging scientists to advance their careers while benefiting from the resources and collaborative environment at the Scripps Research Institute.
