Local Man Jim Cirulli Celebrates 100 Years of Life and Memories
Jim Cirulli, a lifelong resident of Reading, Pennsylvania, celebrated his remarkable 100th birthday on November 8, 2025. Friends and family gathered to honor his century-long journey, which began in the front room of his childhood home at 254 Jefferson Street.
Born to parents Belsario and Marie Antoinette Ciccarne, Jim was the youngest of eight siblings, with brothers and sisters including Alfred, Teresa, and Angeline. Throughout his life, he has lived in various places, including Philadelphia and the Philippines during his service in the Army, before returning to Reading where he has spent the majority of his life.
Jim’s professional journey began with a brief stint in the Army as a cook, after which he learned the trade of shoe repair alongside his brother Samuel. He operated his own shoe repair shop in Laureldale for 18 years before founding T&C Knife Rentals, a business he successfully managed in Reading for 40 years.
Family has always been central to Jim’s life. He married his beloved wife, Catherine Cirulli, a manicurist known for her work in local barber shops, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage until her passing at the age of 94. Jim often remarks that marrying Catherine were the happiest days of his life and would have changed anything about himself to keep her by his side.
His family legacy continues through his children, including Frank, Marie, Jack, and Sam, along with his stepdaughter, Rene. Although many of his children have passed away, Jim is proud of his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ralph, John, and Samantha, as well as his several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Education was important to Jim, who attended school until the ninth grade before leaving to pursue a trade. Despite this, he has always valued learning and has taken up various hobbies throughout his life, including gardening, woodworking, and home improvement projects.
As Jim reflects on his century of life, he emphasizes the importance of family and hard work. His story is a testament to resilience and the enduring connections that shape our experiences. Those who attended his birthday celebration shared stories, laughter, and a deep appreciation for a man who has touched so many lives in his community.
