Carroll Community College has announced the retirement of Steve Wantz, who has served as the executive director of the college’s foundation for nearly 24 years. In recognition of his extensive contributions to the institution, the college has awarded him emeritus status, one of its highest honors.

Wantz, a proud alumnus of Carroll and a first-generation college graduate, began his tenure in 2002 after a successful 26-year career in financial services. When he joined the Carroll Community College Foundation, it managed assets totaling less than $750,000. Under his leadership, that figure has surged to more than $36 million, which has significantly bolstered scholarships, academic initiatives, and various capital projects.

Major Fundraising Successes

Throughout his career, Wantz has overseen the completion of four major fundraising campaigns, each surpassing its original goals. The most recent initiative, known as Turning Hopes and Dreams into Reality, set a record by raising $14.46 million for scholarships, campus improvements, and workforce development programs.

Additionally, Wantz has been instrumental in launching several enduring initiatives, such as the President’s Society, the Joseph F. Shields Legacy Circle, and the Starry Night Gala. Over the past two decades, the gala alone has generated more than $2 million in scholarships.

Carroll Community College President Rosalie Mince praised Wantz’s transformative impact on the institution. “Steve’s leadership has transformed what is possible for Carroll and its students,” Mince stated. “His ability to connect people to our mission has built not only financial strength but also trust, pride, and a shared purpose that will endure for decades.”

A Legacy of Commitment

Wantz’s retirement marks the end of a significant chapter for the Carroll Community College Foundation. His dedication to enhancing educational opportunities for students has left a lasting legacy within the community.

As he steps down, the foundation looks to build on the strong foundation Wantz has established, ensuring that the financial resources necessary for student success continue to grow. His departure will undoubtedly be felt across the campus, as both colleagues and students reflect on the profound influence he has had throughout his tenure.
