Kloots, who has launched her own supplement line called Proper Health, addressed the common phenomenon she describes as the “supplement graveyard,” where unused health products accumulate in kitchen cabinets.
The discussion highlighted a familiar struggle in wellness routines: individuals often start with enthusiasm but quickly lose momentum as life becomes hectic. Kloots emphasized that the issue isn’t a lack of motivation but rather the complexity of many wellness routines. “I just can’t take something every day. I’ll forget,” she admitted, pointing out that the all-or-nothing mentality surrounding wellness can lead to feelings of failure after missing a single day.
Cost plays a significant role in the guilt surrounding unused supplements. Kloots noted that spending $150 on a product only to let it go to waste is frustrating. “To spend that kind of money and watch it go unused is insane,” she stated, reflecting on her upbringing in the Midwest, which shaped her views on affordability and accessibility in wellness.
Rethinking Wellness Approaches
Kloots advocates for a shift in how wellness is perceived, arguing that it should be supportive rather than a source of shame. She believes that enjoyment should not be overlooked, as factors like taste and texture can influence whether a supplement becomes part of a daily routine. “I’ve had a lot of powders that don’t taste good, and I didn’t want mine to go to waste,” she shared, recalling how her father began incorporating greens into his diet after finding a product he enjoyed.
The conversation also explored the emotional barriers to maintaining wellness routines. Kloots explained that the pressure to “do wellness right” can be overwhelming, leading some to abandon their efforts altogether. “Sometimes people just give up because it feels too daunting,” she said. Her goal is to encourage adaptability rather than strict discipline, emphasizing that wellness should support life rather than complicate it.
Practical Tips for Sustainable Wellness
Kloots offered practical advice for incorporating supplements into daily life. She recommends reducing friction by keeping products visible and accessible, stating, “I have them everywhere. Sometimes you forget, and it’s nice to have them.” This approach, she believes, can help individuals maintain their wellness routines without feeling burdened.
Ultimately, Kloots aims to create a guilt-free approach to wellness. “We already have enough mom guilt running around,” she noted, advocating for a mindset where wellness complements real life. By encouraging individuals to find what works best for them, she hopes to foster sustainable habits that adapt to the ever-changing demands of modern life.
