Timothée Chalamet Stars in A24’s ‘Marty Supreme’ Trailer Release
A24 has unveiled the trailer for its latest film, Marty Supreme, a sports dramedy directed by Josh Safdie. The movie features Timothée Chalamet in the lead role of Marty Mauser, a table-tennis prodigy navigating his journey toward becoming a champion during the 1950s. Based on the life of Marty Reisman, a five-time world champion in table tennis, the film promises a blend of humor and drama.
The ensemble cast includes notable names such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Fran Drescher, and Tyler Okonma, known as Tyler, the Creator. Other cast members are Penn Jillette, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary from “Shark Tank,” and filmmaker Abel Ferrara. This film marks a significant return for Safdie, who last co-directed and co-wrote the acclaimed 2019 film Uncut Gems with his brother, Benny Safdie.
Film Details and Reception
In a departure from his previous collaborative work, Marty Supreme is Safdie’s first solo feature since his 2008 debut, The Pleasure of Being Robbed. He co-wrote the screenplay with Ronald Bronstein, and the production team includes Safdie, Bronstein, Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Chalamet, and A24.
The film made waves earlier this month at the 63rd New York Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation during a secret screening. Chalamet and Safdie, alongside Paltrow and Okonma, surprised the audience with an appearance. Chalamet expressed his excitement, stating, “This movie — in many ways, beyond being about Marty Mauser — is a love letter to New York.”
As the awards season approaches, Marty Supreme is generating considerable buzz. Clayton Davis, chief awards editor at Variety, highlighted its potential as a surprise contender, stating, “Much like its protagonist, played by Timothée Chalamet — a young man with a dream no one respects — the film could be the dark horse the Oscar race didn’t realize it needed.”
Release Information
Scheduled for theatrical release on December 25, 2023, Marty Supreme is positioned to capture the attention of both audiences and critics alike. As anticipation builds, viewers can now watch the newly released trailer, hinting at the film’s unique blend of sports, ambition, and the vibrant culture of New York during the 1950s.
