The iconic band The Cure is already working on new music, with plans for a follow-up album to their latest release, Songs of a Lost World, expected in March 2025. This announcement comes as a surprise to fans, especially after the lengthy wait of 16 years between their previous albums.

Recently, the band updated the biography section of their official website, revealing that they returned to Rockfield Studios to record an additional 13 songs. This move suggests that the creative momentum within the band remains strong following their most recent album, which was released in 2024.

In addition to the new album, the website noted that frontman Robert Smith is also revisiting the studio to assist in re-editing and remixing a concert film titled The Show Of A Lost World. This film is anticipated to showcase their performance at London’s Troxy in November 2024, where they played Songs of a Lost World in its entirety, along with various classics from their extensive catalog.

In a previous interview, Smith hinted at a more efficient timeline for new music, stating, “This is jumping about, but we recorded about 25 or 26 songs in 2019. We recorded three albums in 2019; that’s always been the problem. I’ve tried to get three albums completed.” He expressed optimism that the gap between their latest album and the next would not mirror the lengthy hiatus experienced between 4:13 Dream and Songs of a Lost World.

The creative process has led to intriguing new material, as several songs debuted during the Shows of a Lost World tour are expected to feature on the upcoming album. One notable track, “Another Happy Birthday,” was performed live during the tour but remains unreleased, potentially earmarking it for this next project or a subsequent one.

As anticipation builds, fans can expect further discussions about the new album to intensify, especially with The Cure set to headline major festivals such as Primavera and Isle of Wight in 2025. While no official release date or additional details have been disclosed, the band’s proactive approach to recording suggests an exciting year ahead for both the group and their dedicated fanbase.
