Jordon Hudson Defends Bill Belichick After Dave Portnoy’s Criticism
Head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels, Bill Belichick, faced public criticism from Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy during a recent game. Following North Carolina’s 28-12 loss to Wake Forest on November 15, 2025, Portnoy expressed his frustration with Belichick’s coaching decisions on social media, sparking a response from Belichick’s girlfriend, Jordon Hudson.
Portnoy’s comments included a pointed remark about Belichick’s mental state, suggesting that “an alien stole Belichick’s brain.” He added that Belichick needs to retire, indicating his belief that the legendary coach is out of touch with the game. This criticism came during a tense moment in the game where North Carolina struggled to perform.
In a subsequent episode of the “Barstool Pick Em” podcast, aired on November 19, Portnoy revealed that Hudson reached out to him directly via X, sending only a thumbs-down emoji in response to his comments. “I got a DM, just a thumbs-down,” Portnoy explained, emphasizing that he did not initiate the conversation.
Hudson’s involvement in the situation is not new. Earlier this year, Portnoy criticized Belichick after an awkward interview on CBS Sunday Morning, where Hudson interrupted journalist Tony Dokoupil while he was questioning Belichick about their relationship. Portnoy described the interview as “the most awkward Bill Belichick interview I’ve ever seen.” Hudson later defended Belichick on her own social media, stating, “Nothing awkward about it. Imagine a private person wanting to keep their private life private. Shocking.”
Belichick’s tenure with the Tar Heels marks his first season after taking over from Mack Brown. The transition has been challenging; the team currently holds a record of 4-6, raising questions about Belichick’s coaching strategies. Speculation has also surrounded Belichick due to rumors about a potential return to the NFL, which he has publicly denied.
Hudson’s role in this dynamic has attracted media attention, particularly because of her connections to the UNC program and her past interactions with journalists. In August, she had a heated exchange with Charlotte Wilder from The Athletic regarding the coverage of her participation in the 2025 Miss Maine Pageant. Wilder recounted a 13-minute phone call where Hudson expressed her dissatisfaction with the podcast’s portrayal of her performance, stating, “I mean, she’s yelling at me. She’s crying.”
This incident highlights the growing intersection of sports, media, and personal relationships, particularly as public figures navigate the scrutiny that comes with their positions. Hudson’s defense of Belichick amid mounting criticism reflects a complex relationship that continues to evolve under the spotlight.
As the Tar Heels strive to improve their performance on the field, Belichick’s leadership and the influence of those close to him, like Hudson, will be crucial in the coming weeks. The ongoing narrative surrounding this coaching legend and his personal life remains a focal point for fans and observers alike.
