Jennifer Lawrence Playfully Questions Leonardo DiCaprio on Past Nude Scenes
In a recent episode of Variety’s Actors on Actors, actors Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio engaged in a lively conversation about their careers, touching on their mutual respect for director Martin Scorsese. The discussion featured playful banter, particularly when Lawrence teased DiCaprio about his history with nude scenes, adding a lighthearted tone to their dialogue.
During the interview, Lawrence inquired with a hint of mischief, “Have you ever done nudity?” DiCaprio responded affirmatively, mentioning his early role in Total Eclipse, a film about the French poet Arthur Rimbaud, which he starred in at the age of 17 or 18. He also noted partial nudity in his acclaimed performance in The Aviator. Lawrence humorously suggested, “Hmm. You should rewatch it,” prompting laughter from both actors.
DiCaprio’s candid reflections on filming nude scenes brought additional depth to the conversation. Previously, in a clip shared by Outstanding Screenplays, he described the experience of shooting sex scenes for The Wolf of Wall Street, where he portrayed the controversial stockbroker Jordan Belfort. He characterized the filming as “disgusting,” stating, “To tell you the truth, it was kind of disgusting. Sometimes these sequences were, you know, they weren’t very romantic, let’s put it that way.”
The Oscar-winning actor elaborated on the realities of filming intimate scenes, emphasizing the presence of body doubles and protective measures that often overshadow any notions of romance. “You think more about your back hurting than any arousal,” he added, providing insight into the challenges actors face in such situations.
Shared Admiration for Martin Scorsese
The conversation also highlighted the strong professional relationship between DiCaprio and Scorsese, with DiCaprio having collaborated with the renowned director on six feature films, including Gangs of New York, The Departed, and Shutter Island. Their most recent collaboration, Killers of the Flower Moon, has further solidified their partnership in the film industry.
As they discussed the future, Lawrence expressed excitement about reuniting with DiCaprio for Scorsese’s upcoming project, What Happens at Night. When she asked if he was looking forward to working together again, DiCaprio replied, “Who isn’t?” This exchange underscored their camaraderie and enthusiasm for future creative endeavors.
The lighthearted yet insightful discussion between Lawrence and DiCaprio not only entertained but also provided a glimpse into the realities of the film industry, illustrating how humor can coexist with the serious nature of their craft.
