Founding Kiss Guitarist Ace Frehley Dies Following Fall
Ace Frehley, the founding guitarist of the iconic glam rock band Kiss, passed away from injuries sustained in a fall earlier this year. The Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office in New Jersey confirmed that Frehley, who was 72, died from blunt force trauma to the head. His agent stated that he died peacefully on October 16, 2023, surrounded by family in Morristown, New Jersey. The autopsy declared his death an accident.
Frehley became a household name as part of Kiss, a band known for its extravagant stage performances featuring fireworks, smoking instruments, and theatrical personas. The members famously donned body armor, platform boots, and the signature black-and-white face paint that defined their image during the 1970s and 1980s. Frehley’s contributions to rock music and his unique style left a lasting legacy that continues to influence musicians today.

Born on April 27, 1951, in Brooklyn, New York, Frehley showcased his talent early in life, eventually co-founding Kiss in 1973. The band’s self-titled debut album laid the groundwork for what would become a cultural phenomenon. Their 1975 album, “Alive!”, catapulted them to fame, showcasing their energetic performances and solidifying their place in rock history.
Beyond his work with Kiss, Frehley pursued a successful solo career. His 1978 self-titled album featured hits such as “New York Groove” and highlighted his distinctive guitar playing and songwriting skills. Throughout his career, he received multiple accolades, including induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Kiss in 2014.
