Eddy Moretti Joins Laugh Cry Wow as Executive Producer

Eddy Moretti has been appointed as the first Executive Producer at Laugh Cry Wow, a nonfiction studio co-founded by Jami Gertz and Bayan Joonam earlier this year. Moretti brings extensive experience from his two-decade tenure as Chief Creative Officer at Vice Media, where he produced an impressive array of programming, including numerous feature films.
In his new role, Moretti will work closely with Laugh Cry Wow’s creative and development teams to craft innovative stories that resonate with audiences across various platforms. He will also spearhead the company’s efforts to build and integrate strategic brand partnerships that align with their content initiatives.
“Joining Laugh Cry Wow is an exciting opportunity,” said Moretti. “Bayan and Jami have created a remarkable company focused on storytelling that taps into fundamental human emotions. This team is filled with extraordinary talent and energy, and I am eager to bring my experiences from navigating the evolving media landscape to help drive our success.”
Joonam expressed his enthusiasm for Moretti’s appointment, stating, “Having witnessed the impact of Eddy’s work for many years, I couldn’t be more excited to welcome him. His innovative storytelling approach is exactly what we need as the nonfiction sector continues to evolve.”
Moretti’s illustrious career at Vice saw him develop partnerships that launched influential brands such as Noisey and Motherboard. His narrative feature credits include significant works like Amazon’s The Report, The Bad Batch, The Beach Bum, Climax, and Lords of Chaos. He was also instrumental in the launch of Viceland, an Emmy-winning cable channel that operates in over 80 territories worldwide.
Throughout his career, Moretti has received numerous accolades, including multiple Emmy Awards, Peabody Awards, and Cannes Lions. His work has been showcased at prestigious film festivals such as Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Sundance, and TIFF. Moretti is scheduled to speak at AdWeek’s BrandWeek: Made in ATL panel on November 5, 2023.
Currently, Laugh Cry Wow is focused on developing a library of premium nonfiction content in three primary areas: sports, music, and stranger-than-fiction narratives. Their inaugural project, Magic City: An American Fantasy, explores the history of a renowned Atlanta strip club that has been pivotal in shaping Southern rap culture. The five-part docuseries premiered to critical acclaim at SXSW and has since earned a nomination for a Critics Choice Award for Best Limited Documentary Feature. It is now available for streaming on Starz.
With Moretti at the helm of executive production, Laugh Cry Wow is poised to make a significant impact in the nonfiction space, delivering compelling stories that reflect the emotional and cultural dynamics of contemporary society.
