Angela Oakley Discusses Drama with Charles on ‘RHOA’ Season 17
Angela Oakley, a new addition to the cast of *The Real Housewives of Atlanta*, revealed that her husband, former NBA All-Star Charles Oakley, struggled to understand the interpersonal dynamics during her inaugural season on the show. Speaking exclusively to Us Weekly at BravoCon 2025 in Las Vegas, Angela, 44, shared that their relationship experienced daily arguments due to the show’s drama.
When questioned about Charles’s feelings regarding their return to the series after season 16 concluded, Angela responded, “Of course,” noting his concerns. She recounted a conversation where Charles expressed confusion about her interactions with other cast members, asking, “Why are you taking so long to go off on this person who says this? Why do you even want to be this person’s friend?”
Angela emphasized that a certain level of conflict is typical within her friend group. “I’m like, ‘Charles, this is a friend group. Friendships heal quick in this group. You have to get over it,’” she explained. Despite his reservations, she affirmed that Charles supports her decisions and will continue to participate in the show’s upcoming season.
The couple’s experience in season 16 was marked by significant drama, which carried over to the reunion that took place in June. Notably, cast member Kenya Moore chose to skip the reunion, later expressing her disappointment via X, stating, “I take full accountability for my actions and deeply apologize to all those affected including Brittney, the cast, crew, guests, and viewers.”
The tension between Kenya and fellow cast member Brit Eady was a focal point in the season. An incident in an April 6 episode showcased Kenya displaying explicit photos of a woman presumed to be Brit. Following a Bravo investigation, it was determined that Kenya would not participate in filming for the remainder of the season. Kenya later claimed she was invited but then disinvited from the reunion, a statement that Bravo later refuted.
With season 17 on the horizon, longtime cast members Cynthia Bailey and Phaedra Parks hinted at an exciting lineup. Cynthia, 58, remarked, “We are coming for all of them,” while Phaedra, 52, promised “new peaches,” referring to new cast members who will bring a fresh dynamic to the show. Phaedra described the new additions as “very interesting” and “very, very different,” suggesting they will enhance the overall experience for viewers.
Cynthia highlighted the importance of travel in the series, mentioning that upcoming episodes would include both a domestic and international trip. “We had a great time…The trips are very important,” she noted, without revealing specifics about the destinations or events.
As anticipation builds for the new season, Bravo has yet to announce an official premiere date for *RHOA* Season 17, leaving fans eager for more details about the unfolding drama.
