Clara Barton Medical Center Earns 2025 Performance Leadership Award
Clara Barton Medical Center in Hoisington, Kansas, has been recognized for its commitment to patient care by receiving the prestigious 2025 Performance Leadership Award for excellence in Patient Perspective. This accolade was announced in conjunction with National Rural Health Day, underscoring the center’s dedication to high-quality healthcare services.
The Performance Leadership Awards are compiled by the Chartis Center for Rural Health and highlight hospitals that achieve top quartile performance, specifically in the 75th percentile or above, in various categories such as Quality, Outcomes, and Patient Perspective. The awards are based on the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance Index, a comprehensive framework that assesses the performance of rural hospitals across multiple operational and financial metrics.
According to Michael Topchik, executive director of the Chartis Center for Rural Health, “The areas of quality, outcomes, and patient perspective are cornerstones of health-care delivery across rural America. This year’s Performance Leadership Award recipients are establishing a standard of excellence for their rural peers to follow.” He expressed delight in celebrating the achievements of these hospitals on National Rural Health Day.
Clara Barton Medical Center was one of only 28 hospitals in Kansas to receive this award, a significant recognition within the state. The center’s President and CEO, Jay Tusten, stated, “It is an honor to be recognized for our commitment to customer service. Our staff consistently goes above and beyond to create a welcoming and supportive health-care environment. We deeply appreciate their efforts and thank Chartis for celebrating that dedication.”
Located in Hoisington, Clara Barton Medical Center functions as a distinguished 25-bed critical access hospital and Level 4 trauma center. It serves the central Kansas region by offering comprehensive and compassionate care. The center’s network includes three rural health clinics located in Hoisington, Great Bend, and Russell, as well as a state-of-the-art surgical clinic in Hoisington.
This recognition not only highlights the accomplishments of Clara Barton Medical Center but also reflects broader efforts to improve healthcare access and quality in rural areas, where challenges often differ from those faced by urban hospitals. The Performance Leadership Awards serve as a benchmark for rural healthcare facilities, encouraging them to strive for excellence in patient care and operational effectiveness.
