Rev. Jesse Jackson’s Condition Improves, Family Reports Encouraging Signs
The family of civil rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson announced on Sunday that his health condition has improved significantly, as he is now breathing without assistance from machines. Jackson, who remains under medical observation, was hospitalized last week due to complications related to his ongoing battle with progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), a neurological disorder he was diagnosed with in April 2023.
On Monday, his eldest daughter, Satita Jackson, expressed optimism regarding her father’s recovery. “He is doing much better than when he was admitted,” she stated. “He’s speaking on his own and is ready to go home.” She added that her father is communicating with family members by speaking and occasionally squeezing their hands, demonstrating a strong desire to return to his community engagement.
Despite the improvements, Jackson continues to be closely monitored by his medical team. Reports indicate he has been on medication to stabilize his blood pressure but is being gradually weaned off these treatments. Friends and family members have traveled to Chicago to provide support during this challenging time.
Satita clarified that her father has never required life support during his hospitalization. “He has fought valiantly against a really aggressive infection and has turned the corner several days ago,” she noted. “He’s made massive improvements every day, talking and asking for his favorite soft drink.”
The family has received support from prominent figures, including Rev. Al Sharpton, who visited Jackson and confirmed he has not been on life support. While Satita plans to spend the night with her father, it remains unclear when he will be discharged from the hospital.
Rev. Jesse Jackson, known for his historic presidential campaigns in the 1980s and as a founding member of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, has been a significant figure in the civil rights movement for decades. His family remains hopeful for his continued recovery and future contributions to the community.
