Toddler Makes Daring Escape at 4 AM, Mom Shares Shocking Footage
URGENT UPDATE: A shocking incident unfolded early this morning in Columbus, Ohio, when a toddler made a daring escape from his home at around 4 AM. Alisa Green, an ICU nurse and mother of three, posted the heart-stopping footage on Instagram, capturing the moment her 18-month-old son Maverick opened the front door and ventured into the darkness.
In a terrifying turn of events, Alisa was alerted by her husband, Nate Green, who was working a night shift as a firefighter. He received a notification from their Ring doorbell camera, indicating “someone is at your front door.” What he discovered was Maverick running outside, having apparently climbed out of his crib and unlocked both the bedroom and front doors.
“He had jiggled the bedroom door to unlatch the lock and unlocked the deadbolt on the front door,” Alisa recounted. With Nate quickly springing into action, he activated emergency alarms on all three Ring cameras in the home, calling Alisa to alert her to the unfolding situation.
Fortunately, Maverick’s adventure lasted only about 15 seconds before he realized the outside world was cold and dark. He quickly returned inside, where Alisa found him running through the living room, visibly panicked with the front door wide open.
“I woke up to the alarms and my phone ringing, and there he was—a panicked screaming toddler,” Alisa described.
After comforting her son, Alisa asked why he had gone outside during “dark time.” Maverick innocently replied he was going to “see his friends in the car.” While it remains unclear if these friends were real or imagined, Alisa was relieved that no unfamiliar cars were seen in the driveway.
In the wake of this terrifying incident, the Greens have taken immediate action to enhance their home security. They installed slide locks on all exterior doors and window stoppers and modified Maverick’s bedroom door to be lockable from the inside. Alisa humorously dubbed her son “Danger Baby” for his escapade.
Despite the initial panic, Alisa believes the family can now look back and laugh at the situation. In fact, Maverick himself seems to have learned a lesson, telling his mother during a recent playback of the footage, “Oh mommy, that was naughty.”
This incident highlights the challenges many parents face during bedtime, especially with toddlers who are naturally curious and adventurous. According to a study published in the Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, about 42 percent of parents report experiencing some form of “bedtime resistance” from their children.
As families grow and evolve, so do their security needs. The Greens’ experience serves as a vital reminder for parents to continually assess home safety measures to keep their little ones secure, especially during those vulnerable nighttime hours.
Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops. The importance of home safety and awareness has never been more pressing for parents everywhere.
