UPDATE: The Colorado Buffaloes (CU Buffs) secured a thrilling 97-88 victory over Providence on November 10, 2023, fueled by a standout performance from freshman Alon Michaeli. Despite joining the team late and missing his first game due to injury, Michaeli exploded onto the scene with 20 points and six rebounds, proving he is ready to make his mark.

In a game that showcased the Buffs’ offensive prowess, Michaeli stepped up off the bench, becoming the second CU player to score at least 20 points within the first three games of the season. His performance came during a crucial nonconference matchup at the CU Events Center, where the Buffs demonstrated incredible resilience.

“We know Alon can be a great player here,” said CU head coach Tad Boyle. “He finished well tonight and made his free throws.”

Michaeli’s journey to this moment has been challenging. Following a late signing this summer, he faced a setback with a minor ankle injury, limiting his earlier contributions. Yet, in this decisive game, he showcased his skills, going 7-for-15 from the floor and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line during 22 minutes and 41 seconds of play.

Providence head coach Kim English acknowledged Michaeli’s talent, noting that his team’s lack of familiarity with him did not hinder the freshman’s success. “He played really, really well,” English remarked, highlighting Michaeli’s ability to drive and finish plays effectively.

In a twist, Coach Boyle missed Thursday’s practice and Friday’s shoot-around due to illness but credited his coaching staff and players for maintaining focus and delivering a strong performance. “This win had nothing to do with me. It had everything to do with our players and coaching staff,” Boyle stated, expressing pride in his team’s efforts.

Notably, the Buffs improved their free-throw shooting significantly, finishing the game at an impressive 85.2%, after struggling in previous contests. Freshman guard Isaiah Johnson also shone, going 8-for-9 from the line, marking him with an 88.9% success rate early in the season.

As the season progresses, fans are eager to see how Michaeli continues to develop and contribute to the CU Buffs’ quest for success. The Buffs’ next matchup promises to be another exciting test as they build on this momentum.

Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops and the CU Buffs aim for greater heights in the upcoming games.
